वर्ल्ड ऐड्स day

World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. It is common to hold memorials to honor persons who have died from HIV/AIDS on this day. Government and health officials also observe the event, often with speeches or forums on the AIDS topics. Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements.

AIDS has killed more than 25 million people between 1981 and 2007, and an estimated 33 million people worldwide live with HIV as of 2007, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 2 million lives in 2007, of which about 270,000 were children.

World AIDS Day at the World Health Organization was the brainchild of Jonathan Mann, director of the Global Programme on AIDS and personal AIDS proponant (GPA) at the World Health Organization (WHO). The concept of a World AIDS Day was supported at the 1988 World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention and by the Fourth International AIDS Conference in 1988. WHO declared December 1, 1988 as the first World AIDS Day. The United Nations General Assembly formally recognized the event in October 1988. Since then, the event has been taken up by governments, international organizations and charities around the world.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) became operational in 1996, and it took over the planning and promotion of World AIDS Day. Rather than focus on a single day, UNAIDS created the World AIDS Campaign in 1997 to focus on year-round communications, prevention and education.

In its first two years, the theme of World AIDS Day focused on children and young people. These themes were strongly criticized at the time for ignoring the fact that people of all ages may become infected with HIV and suffer from AIDS. But the themes drew attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, helped alleviate some of the stigma surrounding the disease, and helped boost recognition of the problem as a family disease.

In 2004, the World AIDS Campaign became an independent organization.

From its inception until 2004, UNAIDS spearheaded the World AIDS Day campaign, choosing annual themes in consultation with other global health organizations.

As of 2008, each year's World AIDS Day theme is chosen by the World AIDS Campaign's Global Steering Committee after extensive consultation with people, organizations and government agencies involved in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. For each World AIDS Day from 2005 through 2010, the theme will be "Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.", with a yearly sub-theme.[5] This overarching theme is designed to encourage political leaders to keep their commitment to achieve universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support by the year 2010.

This theme is not specific to World AIDS Day, but is used year-round in WAC's efforts to highlight HIV/AIDS awareness within the context of other major global events including the G8 Summit. World AIDS Campaign also conducts "in-country" campaigns throughout the world, like the Student Stop AIDS Campaign, an infection-awareness campaign targeting young people throughout the UK.

कार्तिक Purnima

The Full Moon Day or 15th Purnima day of the Shukla paksha (waxing moon) of the Kartika month is considered very auspicious. The full Moon is usually in Taurus and therefore exalted. At times this festival can take place with the full Moon in Aries- but it represents a strong and auspicious Moon. Usually this is the full Moon in the month of November. It has many names including the Diwali of the Gods and Tripuri Purnima. This day marks the victory of Lord Shiva over the demons Tripuri. The Kartik Purnima festival also coincides with the Jain light festival and Guru Nanak's Birthday.
Tripuri Purnima is one of the most propitious day for worshipping of Shiva, next only to the Maha Shivaratri. According to Mahabharata there were three sons born to the demon Taraka. Taraka was killed by Kartikeya (Mars). Taraka’s sons were called Taraksha, Kamalaksha and Vidyunmali. Demons in Vedic philosophy are very intelligent and strong but they tend to use their knowledge and strength towards the wrong means. These demon sons of Taraka had performed severe penance towards Brahma and won the gift of immense power. Brahma is the creator, The boon that they received, granted them that they would live for a thousand years in three invincible, moving cities known as Tripuri and that they could only be destroyed by one arrow that would merge the three cities into one, and set them to fire. Tri means three and Puri means cities. Tripuri were resplendent, made up of gold, silver and iron respectively. They were built to rival Indra’s grand city. As such powerful demons, the Tripura spent all their time and energy to harass the gods. The power was such that it was difficult to control their destructive tendencies. Their cities never remained in one place long enough therefore it was difficult to destroy them together.
At the end of a thousand years of their negative rule, the gods went to Rudra (Shiva) and asked him to destroy the demon. Rudra had to seek the help of Brahma and the other gods in this task. He danced Tandava, his dance of destruction. He rocked the three cities with his dance (The Tandava of Shiva is said to be like an earthquake); his arrow pierce through the three demons at one time and the fire from his third eye burnt the three cities.
In commemoration of burning and destroying the demons and their cities, this event, which occurred on Kartik Purnima day, is observed annually. While Diwali is the Rama’s (God in a human form) triumph over the demon, Dev Diwali celebrates the Global fight against eveil forces that disturb the harmony of the universe and saving of the whole universe from the destructive intention of those with negative gaendas. While Brahma can create, how people use their creation is up to them. It is Shiva who can save the world when the creation goes wrong. This form of Shiva is known as Tripurantaka for killing the three demon princes and destroying their evil cities.
It is believed that annually on the day of Kartik purnima, the gods descend on earth and reside in the sacred rivers. Ganges and other sacred rivers have elaborate ceremonies on this day. Devotees who bathe in the sacred rivers on these days can also get rid of their negative poisons and receive the blessings from all the Gods of the India.
To celebrate this day we can also cleanse our inner selves. To bathe our mind in the spiritual waters even if we do not live near sacred rivers. Allow the spiritual light to burn away all the questionable traits within. It is not the show of cleaning the outer selves but to rid of our mind and life of its wrong qualities like fear, greed, envy, anger, arrogance and wrong desires and replacing those with forces of love, compassion, generosity, kindness, and light.

सिस्टंस नेवर सेपरातेस तवो heart

for our memories span the miles and in seconds we are there

But whenever I start feeling sad, because I miss you

I remind myself how lucky I am to have someone so special to miss

Sometimes I miss you so much

I just want to rip you out of my dreams and hug you!

The rose that you gave me has faded, and wilted away

But, the love tucked in deep inside, remains in my heart forever

See there's this place in me, where your fingerprints still rest

your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo

It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me

Will I wait a lonely lifetime? If you want me to, I will

I will love you all my life

and when I die I will still love you, through eternity and beyond

A ring is round, it turns forever

and that's how long we'll be together!

I love the sun for days, the moon for nights

and you forever, I'll surrender my world to you

if that is the only way I could become a part of yours

The beating of my heart is a drum, and it's lost

and it's looking for a rhythm like you

If you love someone, you have to look before you leap

It takes a second to say I love you, but a lifetime to show it

When I miss you, I don't have to go far

I just have to look inside my heart, because that's where I'll find you

I heard someone whisper your name

but when I turned around to see who it was, I was alone

Then I realized that it was my heart telling me that I miss you

If you love me as I love you

nothing but death can part us two

Tears in my eyes

you on my mind

love in my heart

oceans in between

I love you

Close together or far apart

you're forever in my heart

What, then, is this elusive thing called love that everyone sodesperately needs? Sometimes, we sort of like this girl because she isbeautiful ? Or the girl likes him because he is handsome? But this kindof "Cinderella Syndrome" when the girl is waiting on her PrinceCharming, is not real love. It is better known as "infatuation", andthere is a vast difference between it and real love. Here, we help youto differentiate and find out if you are really in love and not justinfatuation.

Infatuation

Infatuation is a feeling; real love involves a commitment also.Infatuation is just love of emotion. Real love, though, is love ofdevotion. Only the emotions are affected in infatuation, but in reallove both the emotions and the will are involved. Next, a person "fallinto" infatuation, but "grows into" real love. Guys, have you ever seena girl who was so beautiful that you thought you'd faint? This isinfatuation! It is based totally on physical attraction; often youdon't know much in-depth about the person you so-called love. Thus, infatuation is mostly biological. Also remember, never tell a girl youlove her, unless you are willing to marry her.

Then, infatuation is basically selfish where real love is basicallyselfless . Infatuation is more interested in satisfying yourself andthe "feeling" than it is in the other person. Real love is primarilyinterested in the other person. It seeks to give instead of get.. Loveunselfishly seeks the highest good for the other person. Lastly, infatuation is weakened by time and separation where real love isstrengthened by time and separation. This does not mean that there willbe no pain in separation. On the contrary, there is great pain inseparation if you are truly in love.

Love

Now you know what is infatuation, we will go on to discuss about the details of a true love.

Love is patient. The word translated "patient" means to waitpatiently for the fulfillment of expectations. When you have difficultydating this girl and she does not want to come out, if you truly loveher, you will not complain and blame her, you must look at thesituation from her point of view - maybe she is having some problemswhich prevented her from coming out. You must react to it with patienceand understanding. Next, have you ever met someone you liked so muchthat you wanted to push the relationship and make it progress faster?Sure you have! Love, however, is willing to give a relationship time togrow at a natural pace. It does not push but is willing to wait for therelationship to grow at a rate that is satisfactory to both parties.Love is Kind. Love seeks to encourage and build up others. It respectsthe feelings and emotions of others.. It finds its greatestsatisfaction in making others happy.

You can do the following:

1.
2. Give one another things such as gifts and encouragement cards.
3. Compliment one another. Magnify the other party's strength.
4. Listen to one another. Pay close attention to what each of you has to say and make each other feel that what each says is important.
5. Treat one another special in public. Compliment and encourage one another sincerely in the presence of others.
6.

Love is Not Jealous
Jealousy usually indicates aninsecure and immature heart. Love wants the best for others, butjealousy is possessive. Jealous is reflected in the childish statement,"If he is going to talk to her, then he can just forget about me!"Often, one person wants to totally possess the other and to restricther relationships with others.

Love is Not Brag
Love is not a windbag and is notanxious to impress. Often a guy will brag to a girl, trying to impressher so that she will like him. A truly great person, however, does notneed to exalt himself! Others will exalt him.

Love is Not Arrogant
Love is not conceited, boastful, cocky, or stuck-up. Love, instead, is humble and has aservant attitude. Sometimes, a guy may come across to a girl with an "Ican take you or leave you" attitude. His demeanour implies, "You oughtto be thankful that somebody as neat as me is dating you." Of course, this is not love.

Love always covers
This word cover means to passover in silence, to keep confidential. Love is patient with the faultsof others. It doesn't criticize and broadcast to the world the faults ofothers. Love is there even when it knows the other is not perfect.

Love always Perseveres
Love always stands itsground and holds out. It will outlast anything. It will even love inthe face of unreturned love.Real love will last though all sorts oftrials, tribulations and stresses.

Love is Not Provoked
This means that love has along fuse. It does not become irritated and angry. It is not easilyoffended. Love does not seek its own This is the heart of love. Love isother-centered rather than self-centered. Love says, "I love you, I wantto give to you." Selfishness says, "I love you, I want you!"

Love does not act unbecomingly
This means that lovedoes not behave disgracefully, dishourable or indecently. It does notembarrass others by its action. It is characterized by tact andsensitivity. This also means that love should have good manners. Besure to do little things like opening doors for your girl, or offeringher your arm when you walk together.

Love is forgiving
Lastly, this is a MUST for asuccessful love story. If a guy is not willing to forgive and forgetwhen his girlfriend is one hour late, he is not exhibiting love. Lovedoesn't hold grudges when it has been wronged. It doesn't remainresentful. Remember this: Love forgets past failures and sins.

लव someone

If you Love someone because you think he or she is gorgeous....
then it's not love: It's - "Infatuation" -

If you love someone because you think you should not leave him or her because other think you shouldnot....
then it's not love: It's - "Compromise" -

If you love someone beacuse you think you cannot live without his or her touch....
then it's not love: It's - "Lust" -

If you love someone because you have been kissed by him or her...
then it's not love: It's - "Inferiority Complex" -

If you love someone because you think if you leave it will hurt his or her feelings...
then it's not love: It's - "Charity" -

If you love someone because you share everything with him or her....

If you are attracted to a person and stay with him or her for ever without any regrets...
that's - "LOVE" -

If you let him go knowing that he or she has to go but he or she doen't want to...
that's - "LOVE"

लव...

Love is the word that makes one go into dreams of bliss and the word that can take one into pain. It all depends, how your love turned out. If you were stabbed in the back, pain will be the result and if you got loyalty, it will be pleasure. When one looks at the scenes of destruction of one's love, when one revisits the places where love had blossomed, below the flowering trees, one goes in to the memories of the lost love. It hurts and it hurts very badly. Similarly the love that enriches us can be invaluable. It gives a new breath, a new life. Love can give life and when lost, life may be lost. Call it addiction to love or whatever, love is a feeling that cannot be described in words. it has to be felt.

We hear about many break-ups and separations. What happened to the love that brought the couple together in the beginning? How can ex lovers talk of revenge? In love, there is no revenge. If your beloved stabs you in the back, you will not ask for revenge, because you loved and you still love. As I have yet to talk to someone who stabbed the beloved, I don't know about his or her thinking, but it must be that of - how could I do this? Or may be they are so evil that they applaud themselves for their backstabbing!

Love is sublime. Love gives power. Love gives determination. In love, many lovers do what they could never dream of. Empires have been sacrificed for love. Battles have been fought for love. Love has ruled mankind since ages. Those who experience love are truly lucky.

तवो choices

What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. "I believe, that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child."

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third! Shay, run to third!"

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world".

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

मोमेंट्स इन life

There are moments in life when you love & miss someone so much
that you just want to pick them from your dreams

and hug them for real! And to know that depth of love
is truly as wonderful as life itself.

When one door closes, another opens;
but often times we look so long at the
closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.

Don't love for looks; they can deceive.
Don't love for wealth; even that fades away.
Love someone who makes you smile,
because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.
But remember to always have a smile within your own heart first.

Dream what you want to dream;
go where you want to go;
be what you want to be,
because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things
you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
enough trials to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human and
enough hope to make you happy.
The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
they just make the most of everything that they have.

The brightest future will always be based on a darker past;
you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so at the end,
you're the one who is smiling and everyone
around you is crying.

People come into your life for a reason

People come into your life for a reason,

a season or a lifetime. When you know which
one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON,

it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty,

to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or

at an inconvenient time, this person will say or

do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.

What we must realize is that our need has been

met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.

The prayer you sent up has been answered

and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime

lessons, things you must build upon in order
to have a solid emotional foundation.

Your job is to accept the lesson,
love the person and put what you have

learned to use in all other relationships

and areas of your life. It is said that

love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life,

whether you were a reason, a season

or a lifetime.

मेअनिंग ऑफ़ Friendship

Friendship is the best relation one can have ever in his entire life. Friendship is a lifetime bond, a divine affiliation and a loving emotion which do not seek inheritance. Friendship is a relation which we build after stepping into the mortal world. There is no blood relation in friendship, it is a relation that threads in hearts. Friendship cannot be explained in words. It is an intense feeling that buds in the heart of two friends.Friendship blooms from faith, love and respect built by two hearts that come close to each other with a feeling that they can share their joys and sorrows throughout their life. In the middle of a work day when your friend checks his mailbox and he happens to find one of these: A cute friendship, a famous friendship, a funny friendship or true friendship , he is going to feel real good and would be reminded of you with fondness.

You don't need an occasion or reason to honor your friend or thank him or her for their support. You can pay a tribute to them at any point of day and by any means. Reciting to your friend some beautiful friendship is one of the most soothing way to express yourself to your loving friend without saying much. Friendship is not about leading or following, it is simply being with each other to share each and every single moment of our lives. These simple words contain in themselves the entire beauty of friendship. Friendship doesn't imply any scholarly line of statement, it can be woven into simple words with deep thoughts. You can recite friendship of renowned poets to honory our friend but lining up your emotion in your own words is the most natural and loving manner of expression anytime.

Friendship can denote varied emotions. It can be to inspire your friend when he or she is in blue, it can be a heartening note when your friend will head for a fresh challenge in life, it can be a consolatory note when your friend is in a state of despondency and it can also be a note of sweet nothing which can be addressed without any cause or event.Friendship makes you feel loved through and through for being the person you are. Friendship is the most selfless bond one can share in his entire life.

Friendship help you to speak those heartywords about your friend which you may not be able to describe in mere informalspeech. A friend loves every bit of yours even if you bear devilish traits morethan angelic ones. You can convey these thoughts of yours through friendshipquotes. बेऔतिफुल girl

This flower caught my eyes.
May be it was the fresh scent, may be it was the bold display of colours, it’s radiance.. something.. it made me turn.
I couldn’t see it very well in crowd but couldn’t take my eyes of it. There was a strange force drawing me towards it.
I decided to step towards it.
As I went near, an amazing thing happened. It began to change!
In a moment it was a smiling torch.
I blinked over and over again…
It was then surrounded by ferocious tigeresses. It’s eyes were glittering!
I rubbed my eyes. It suddenly disappeared…
Then suddenly some time later flower transfigured into an angel.
Just as I was thinking of drawing my sengal out, it changed again.. into the beautiful flower.
Mustering all the courage that I had, with a hand holding tightly on the sengal, I went closer, initially at a slower pace during interval and later at good pace after the movie.
It did not change.
I went closer and closer.
No change.
I was now almost at a touching distance.
I went closer and thought f having a chat..
It wasn’t there anymore !
In front of me suddenly the ferocious tigeresses popped up…

Unfortunately I couldn’t use any pop up blocker there…
My friends pulled me out of it and we went in 6wheeler and the flower along with those tigers went in 3wheeler…

Flower refers to the Girl in green chudidhar who came to Gopi krishna hall yesterday.

Tiger’s refers to her mother and some anonymous lady.

Sengal refers to Nokia 6600…

Update:one day, green leaves will fade away,

faded leaves will fall away, fallen leaves will be thrown away,

but green flower will never fade from my memory…

Sorrow

Am in outright forlornness… This is possibly true but probably false…

The three things that I value the most in my life are…

1) She

2) She

3) She

1) She - to shower love and affection.

2) She - to share my ecstatic joy and grief.

3) She - to be with me till death.

But…………..

The atmosphere is so desolate; it’s like she is omnipresent, which is possibly true but probably false. And when she turned into superior version of “Chapel of Love” in my second life and left me in dilemma in my real life. Her quiet posture stunned me and my heart broke out when she turned her back. I became the “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” with appy fizz in my hand. She turned discourteous and I was in melancholy and in an anguished “Delta Dawn,”. She pulls off from second life as well as from real life. A few contemporary vocalists played neo-tonal or neo-Romantic music and tried to pull off the bleakness of “kisses & hugs” or the forlornness of “Am I Blue?” with such genuine shades of feelings inside me; the vocalists were not loud enough to pull off the bleakness. Perhaps she is an accomplished actress in second life as well in real life, my emotions always ring true.

The world “not as static, fixed forms of reality but as floating pictures of radiant qualities, which range from states of forlornness and emptiness to quiet or ecstatic joy.

I hide my tears when I say her name but the pain in my heart still the same, although I smile and seem free, there is no one who misses her more than me.

म्य्सेल्फ़,तवो words

I’ve been blessed with a LOT of free time and I’ve been thinking and thinking and I now realise something I’ve know all along, that my life lacks any sense of direction. I fell sick and I realised almost nobody in this world missed me, I realise that if I were to die this instant nobody will notice, life will just be the same for almost all the ppl I know. I realise one’s life should be measured by the number of people he touches, he influences, he cares about, the number of people who would notice immediately that he’s gone and as I lie alone in my bed Annie Hall comes to mind and Woody Allen’s Quote rings in my ears…

“I feel that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. That’s the two categories. The horrible are like, I don’t know, terminal cases, you know, and blind people, crippled. I don’t know how they get through life. It’s amazing to me. And the miserable is everyone else. So you should be thankful that you’re miserable, because that’s very lucky, to be miserable.”

Indeed how fortunate most of us are to be miserable…

I toss and turn in my bed, with nothing else but my silly computer for company coz you know after a few hours the internet, movies, music everything sorta start messing with your head and you get so bored you wanna shout but you can’t…

I close my eyes in disgust, think What’s the purpose? What’s the reason for living? What’s the reson for Consciousness? What’s the reason for pain? What’s the reason for The Universe ? What’s the reason for everything? I guess I just have to forget these questions and continue with my sorry little life. Maybe as Agent Smith in The Matrix says There is no purpose to life but I know he’s the bad guy and his views are wrong but why are we able to accept our lives when nothing truly ever matters?
In the end I guess all that matters is you are happy btu when you start losing the only thing that makes you happy what do you do?

I goto my terrace, lie down, look up to the stars, start spotting some constellations, some planets and i realise how truly insignificant I am. How meaningless my problems my fears my pains are… I see the beautiful night sky and I’m happy for all the ppl who are happy at that moment, I’m hopeful for all the ppl who are broken, down and sad. In the dark cool night illuminated by the stars I realise even though I may mean nothing to ppl there are some personal pleasures worth living for..

As I kick the football by myself with not a soul around I realise somthing that sums up my entire life till now, I think about how few people I’ve managed to keep hold of, how few I’ve influenced…
I realise that I am A Lonely Failure..

It is a full time cascade atomization of lingering thoughts of few people who have a lean spectrum of mean mixture of cruel substance, which capitalize over few people who are innocent by nature. Gaining advantage directly over innocent two toed lings is not a big deal but it is insane. It defines the character of that particular individual who tries to achieve the same.

The complexity of defining the degree of sin involved in being innocent is like the complexity involved in calling a frivolous person a sinful person. Calling a person sinful for being innocent is unacceptable from the very moment as this thought aroused from deep inside. And it is so awful that the person becomes so innocent at a particular situation that he/she is being cascaded by the fake visage that was portrayed by another person.

The effect of the port created by the geometry of the situation becomes magnanimous or appears to be magnanimous depending upon the innocent nature of that particular person.

Being innocent is not a crime… but being innocent while being hi-jacked by thoughts/acts of another person is a crime!

As far as the one who takes over advantage of the one who is innocent by nature is concerned….

* he/she is cruel by thoughts… which can be witnessed by their action.

* everybody knows Who you are and What you are… people around you are clever, matured and brave enough to tackle you.

* before being banned by the society try to change your mind set.

लव एंड friendship

Friendship and love. Both are so much related to each other. And both are so dissimilar! What are the differences between friendship and love? Is platonic friendship possible between persons of opposite sex? Let us try and understand.

What is friendship? Why do we call a person our friend? When do we call someone a very good friend? If we care for a person, if we are always ready to help that person and if we share most of our thoughts with a person, they are our good friends. We can always count upon our good friends in an emergency. We are always sure that our friend will understand why we acted in a certain way. We need not explain anything to our very good friends. The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so intimate, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends.

What about love? In a relationship of deep love, all the sharing that we discussed above are taken for granted. But love transcends all this. During love, we are attached with a particular person, while in friendship, one may have many friends. A loving relationship makes one so much attached to the other, that one gets pained if his/her beloved is hurt! Love also involves a physical element. Friendship does not have that. This is a vital difference. Nature gives us love so that the specie can go forward. Nature does not give us friendship.

Your heart beats will never increase in anticipation of meeting your friend. You will not lie awake at night thinking about your friend. You will not feel totally lost, if you don’t meet your friend for a few days. You will not have dreams in your eyes thinking about your friend. But in love, you will do all this and much more. Indeed, there is no comparison between love and friendship.

डिफरेंस बेत्वीन सोमेबोद्य यू like एंड सोमेबोद्य यू love

In front of the person you love, your heart beats faster.

But in front of the person you like, you get happy.

In front of the person you love, winter seems like spring.

But in front of the person you like, winter is just beautiful winter.

If you look into the eyes of the one you love, you blush.

But if you look into the eyes of the one you like, you smile.

In front of the person you love, you can’t say everything on your mind.

But in front of the person you like, you can.

In front of the person you love, you tend to get shy.

But in front of the person you like, you can show your own self.

You can’t look straight into the eyes of the one you love.

But you can always smile into the eyes of the one you like.

When the one you love is crying, you cry with them.

But when the one you like is crying, you end up comforting.

The feeling of love starts from the eye.

But the feeling of like starts from the ear.

So if you stop liking a person you used to like, all you need to do is cover your ears.

But

If you try to close your eyes, love turns into a drop of tear and remains in your heart forever.
Dream like you are going to live forever
Live like you are going to die tomorrow

Love is an abstract term which does not fall within a specific definition. For some it is finding the right person while for some others it is a unique feeling. The sum total of the variegated feeling and ideas would lead to the simple deduction that love is end product of a desire to have a partner, a partner who compliments an individual’s desires, feelings and emotions.

Difference Between Love and Friendship

What is friendship, and love? Is there a difference? These are two of the questions that have always intrigued most people. Unfortunately, precise and concise answers to such a question cannot be given. The least that can be said about these two is that both complement each other and that friendship is a subset of love!
Friendship

So what exactly is friendship? How do we define it? Why do we call a person our friend? When do we call someone a very good friend? These are questions to which answers can be sought but then they are case specific.

Friendship is not a state of mind, it’s an act. It’s something you do, it’s not about whether you’re good or not, it’s not a reflection of you, it’s a balanced relationship between people. It varies from person to person. But to define friendship loosely one could say that:

We call those people our friends whom

* We care and are ready to help us during times of distress
* With whom we share most of our thoughts
* We can always count upon our during an emergency

Friendship and love are not quite the same thing, although there’s a lot of love around friendship. We are always sure that our friend will understand why we acted in a certain way. We need not explain anything to our very good friends. The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so intimate, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends.
Love

The primary aspect in love, which makes it stand apart from friendship, is that the two individuals share a certain intimacy, which is greater than friendship

* A primary element in love is the physical element. Friendship has its boundaries defined and no matter how close you are with your friend, it is devoid of physical intimacy. The individuals look at an emotional quotient, which also involves their sexual attachment with each other. This is a vital difference between friendship and love

* In love, individuals generally have only one partner as against friendship. You may have numerous people whom you could call friends/ good friends but there exists only one person with whom you are in love

* A loving relationship makes one so much attached to the other, that one gets pained if his/her beloved is hurt!

* Friendship may last for a life time as does love and relationship but then the time spent by the individuals with each other is high in love / relationship as compared to friendship Life without love is like a year without spring. One could say that love is friendship plus physical closeness.

लव=फटे!!!

Is love over-rated? All through a man’s life he is bombarded by this force of nature, this little sensation in our soul, the tingly feeling in our heart, the source of instant gratification. Some people call it ‘love’. Love as a divine presentation. Yet others call it as a mere chemical reactions (Chemical reactions may involve some amalgamation process of hearts and brains by induction method) or something to that effect. Whatever that is, one thing is for sure. We are fascinated, enslaved and betrayed by it.

One of my favorite things to do is to ride on an empty road in my cruiser. While I was doing just this, I saw another vehicle race towards me in the distance. With the bad eyesight those endless hours of sitting in the computer have bestowed upon me, I was able to make out little of the person driving in the scooter. As it neared me however the curvaceous outlines of her body and the elegant posture did little to hide the gender. When she crossed me, in the flying moment, my eyes locked and time froze, the intensity of that split second and the ferociousness of that gaze sent me on a trip to heaven. Now I’ve never personally been in love, but if that split second is any indication of the true quality of love?

Answer: Possibly ‘YES’ but probably ‘NO’.

Consciously or unconsciously, people believe love is a sensation (based on physical and emotional attraction) that magically, spontaneously generates when Mr. or Ms. Right appears. It can spontaneously degenerate when the magic “just isn’t there” anymore. You fall in love, and you can fall out of it. Love is the attachment that results from deeply appreciating another’s goodness. But as far as parents are concerned ‘LOVE’ is a sin. Parents virtually become misogynist because of the reason that their “SHE” has fallen in love.

But is love necessary? From what is seen around and by carefully weighing the pros and cons, love brings as much sadness as it does happiness. Peoples’ lives ruin when a loved one is lost. Hearts wither in the gloom of lovelorn emotions. So what’s all this fuss about love?

To answer this question we must first delve into the subject of ‘life’

As a wise man once put so eloquently, ‘life sucks’. It is an accepted fact though people might word it differently. We are born one day and die another. And the days between these two are tumultuous. In the broader picture these days are insignificant to humanity. The earth revolves, the sunshine’s, the birds chirp and you are forgotten.

Then how in god’s sweet playground do we deal with life? The answer lies in your heart. It lies in this silly thing called love. It makes our journey to obscurity a little less bumpy. It eases the turbulent flow of the insanity of life.

Is love a choice? If love comes from appreciating goodness, it needn’t just happen but, you can make it happen. Love is active. You can create it. Just focus on the good in another person (and everyone has some). If you can do this easily, you’ll love easily. By focusing on the good, you can love almost anyone. And as far as bad things are concerned… umm… It is just up to you to choose that person.

Remember there are levels of love, and true love is unconditional love, a “CHOICE” and just because someone says they love you doesn’t mean they love you. Their actions will tell.

There are many combinations, all of which form some kind of love. Is there passion and friendship but very little commitment? This is defined as “passionate love.” Are you committed but feels no passion or friendship? This is called “empty love.” What most people ultimately desire, is “TRUE LOVE” the total package: passion, intimacy, friendship and commitment in one healthy relationship. It’s the most fulfilling love. It is unconditional, and in my opinion the only “CHOICE”.

Because deep, intimate love emanates from knowledge and giving, it comes not overnight but over time — which nearly always means after marriage. The intensity many couples feel before marrying is usually great affection boosted by commonality, chemistry, and anticipation. These may be the seeds of love, but they have yet to sprout. On the wedding day, emotions run high, but true love should be at its lowest, because it will hopefully always be growing, as husband and wife gives more and more to each other. Exactly WHAT??

Love can be viewed triangularly. There are three key components: passion, intimacy, and commitment.

Passion underlies physical desire, sexual behavior, and arousal. This is the physical side.

Intimacy is the emotional aspect: closeness, connectedness, and warmth of friendship.

Commitment is the decision-making part “CHOICE” of love; are couples willing to work it out?

If someone tells you true love only happens once BEWARE!! They’ve seen too many Disney films or are trying to manipulate you. People are capable of falling in and out of love so if your “true love” turns out to be abusive or makes you cry more than smile end it and find a healthy person to love.

It is the fate of fate that fate is always addressed only when bad things happen…

It is the fate of love that love is always been seen by our parents as a sin…

It is the fate that some people fall in love and ultimately crash into the sea shore with a beer bottle with long beard…

It is the fate that some people happen to marry the same girl they loved… He He!!

Love at first sight? Yeah, why not! First impression always counts.

One can probably or never judge the chemistry involved in love. There are no chemical or mathematical equations proving love at first sight.

Some enchanted evening you may see a stranger irrespective of what you see quotidian. You may see a stranger across a crowded room. And somehow you know, you know even then, that somewhere you’ll see her again and again at least for the reverse case of women.

People know what kind f relationship they gotta maintain with another within few minutes of meeting, that helps them determine how much effort they are willing to put into developing a relationship, It is almost a self fulfilling prophecy.

According to color experts (Director of the Pantone Color Institute), for girls, red is the most stimulating color you can wear. In fact wearing or seeing red actually increases blood flow, and mimics attraction. Guys who frequently wear blue are stable, faithful and always there. The blue guy is perfect for a serious relationship: he’s reliable, faithful and can match his own clothes.

Some people say: I raised ma head and for a moment I looked into her/his eyes, I knew from my heart that she/he was the one!

But according to me ‘Love at first sight’ seems to be attributed exclusively to face attractiveness and other aspects like appearance, voice, gesticulating moves, smell (taking a gentle deep breath is enough you don’t really have to behave like dogs). According to analysis, if you think of becoming friends then you’ll communicate with him/her more often, and you’ll be telling more about you and do things that will help ensure a friendship does develop. We are able to judge attractiveness with surprising speed and on the basis of very little information. It seems that pretty faces ‘prime’ our minds to make us more likely to associate the pretty face with a positive emotion and keeps us in proximity with the pretty face. There are no definite rules to what kind of face can be called beautiful, but we chose faces of extreme, very ugly or very pretty. Seen rapidly, viewers were able to make what amounted to an unconscious, albeit accurate, assessment of physical beauty, but everything depends on the eyes of the beholder.

Each one has an equal right to exist and express their feelings, Even though many scientific researchers found out that people fall in love in first 30sec on seeing another person… Their theory is still in metastable state.

Is there such a thing as love at the first sight? Or it is just infatuation? How is it possible to feel so much for a stranger, a passerby?
Love has no limits, no color, no time…I see but… How can you love the person you have just met? Is this love at first sight, or merely an attraction that later turns to love? Difficult to know… I respect whom has this firm belief, but still have some doubts about…passion can be, but love…real love…don’t know…

There may be many an options with you but,

I’ll turn out to be the only probability or there will be no possibility.

If you happen to be my primary school mate;

I’d have blown my trumpets and made you happy.

If you happen to be my secondary school mate;

I’d have been down to earth, calm but naughty.

If you happen to be my higher secondary school mate;

I’d have been pretty ordinary.

If you had been my college mate;

You’d have not experienced much of me.

I’d have been yet another fellow in your corridor of life.

If you are a book;

You’ll either be remaining in my cupboard unopened,

You’ll be supporting this muffled head’s head quite often as a pillow.

Most probably you’ll be in the book store;

I’ll be standing out wondering whether or not to buy you.

If you are a leech and if you find yourself inside my room;

You’ll feel for your very existence.

If you happen to be freedom;

I’ll be cast by vendetta or non-violence.

If you are my friend;

I’ll be both resurrection and life.

If you happen to be my sister/brother;

I’ll be your van guarder, and will give my shoulders along with hugs and kisses.

If you happen to be my girl;

I’ll be the reason for your complex splendors castled by the vicissitudes of fate,

I’ll be performing permutations and combination’s and would have become a mad scientist or at least mad.

You’ll be the essence of my life; towering above the others reaching the eminent peak both in my will and Jill.

If you happen to be a gorgeous girl who by passed me;

I’d have bought copyrights from your guy and dashed a thesis about you in split seconds.

If you happen to be single and a gorgeous female;

I’d have posted a disclaimer on your forehead.

If you happen to be my pen;

You’d have never been of use much in exams,

You’d have experienced my acidic saliva;

Quite often you’ll be penning down a stretch of juggled letters,

Letters jiggle and bob out in different colors with multivariate meanings in the white sheet like a merry-go-round.

If you are rain;

I will stretch my hands,

Stare at the clouds which obscure the sun with dark and loud,

And get myself drenched in you even though I have sinusitis which happens to be a mystery and my doubt.

If you happen to be stagnated water;

I would have stamped, jumped, rolled over you bold;

Though you were muddy and making my dress dirty,

Caring about the catching of cold was not worthy.

If you are experiencing me as of now,

I’ll be a jack ass, a weirdo with little hopes.

Since I met you,
I’ve fallen in love with you
at least a hundred times
for a hundred different reasons.
Sometimes I fall in love with you
when I watch you doing something you enjoy,
something you’re so involved in that
you’re unaware of my presence.
Sometimes I fall in love with you
when I listen to you talk to other people.
Whether you’re being interesting and funny
or warm and caring and genuinely concerned,
you have a way of making people feel better
with nothing more than words.
Sometimes I fall in love with you
just thinking about you,
remembering all the memories we’ve made…
falling in love for the first time,
staying in love during the rough times,
finding more to love about each other every day.
And whenever I think about
the wonderful things that lie ahead of us,
I fall totally and completely in love with you
all over again.

होप..

Why we live, for what reason, asked a friend,
He was in gloom, for him do I these thoughts lend,
When in doubt, of life’s purpose, dear,
Think of what, and who, you hold to your heart near

A little spark, a friendship was, you turned into fire,
A forgotten dream, life gave you back, you chased with desire,
Through hurdles, in your path, you ran swift,
Each moment, I spend with you, is to me a gift

Through life’s troubles, you stayed by my side, made it disappear,
When I was scared, you took my arm, now I have no fear,
I came to you, when my dreams fell apart; you stayed with me till now,
You have not let me down, my friend, even when you found true love

Two people, I know, who love you more than me,
They may not tell it aloud, yet its there for the world to see,
A thousand candles, show you the way, yet you want the dark,
Darkness is not your companion, when on life’s journey, you embark

I can tell you, my friend, you have many more a reason to live,
You have not yet, truly found, what joy your life does give,
When you can make, a little smile, turn into laughter,
Dream about the future now, worry about it after

Why we live, for what reason, you did ask me,
Yet the answer does not lie, in these words that I tell thee,
The answer lies, in your heart, deep within you know,
Your past, is what’s haunting you, worrying you about tomorrow

Forget the past, it is lost, it you cannot change,
Look toward the future, it is for you to change,
If it makes, an ounce of difference, to me your friendship means a lot,
Live your dream, without fear, life gives you what you sought

If the sky was my paper, the stars my words, the ocean my ink... it would still not be enough for me to write on "How much I value your friendship".

Shed a little light, spread a little joy,
For those in the dark, a ray of hope,
No more malice, no more dread,
To a new world, let us look ahead.

Free the soul, of all negativity,
Think I can, I should and I will,
No fear, to try the unknown,
Hold my hand, you are never alone.

Lead the way, never follow,
Your heart shall lead you on,
Listen to its voice, trust its beat,
Then you can find success, even in defeat.

Love your life, never despair,
There is not another like you, you are special,
When you can smile, then why the sorrow?
Forget what is gone, only you can decide your tomorrow.

Rest assured, I’m always there,
By your side, when you are in despair,
Talk to me, and I shall listen,
Like sunlight on the lake, let our friendship glisten.

Fear

straight into my heart they dive,
on my deepest emotions they thrive,
why i let them enter i do not know,
try as i do they just do not go.

only i...can make them go away.

deep within my soul they stay,
disturb my mind in their own way,
for how long i shall suffer i just do not know,
try as i do they just do not go.

only i...can make them go away.

they dwell deep in my mind,
where they dwell i just can't find,
i throw them out but they just come back,
when i am weakest they just attack.

only i...can make them go away.

the mistake has always been mine,
if i had not let them control me
my life would have just been fine,
now its different they'll have to go,
i believe in myself now
they will have to leave me alone.

only i...can make them go away.

for fear exists only in the mind of the beholder.
for the only fear one should have,is fearing fear itself.
fear is always existing,u cannot avoid it.
all u can do is stop fearing it...

in life so far i have met,
both victory & defeat,
one cannot obtain one & avoid the other,
as one follows the others feet.

i do not fear defeat,
for towards the other it has led,
defeat is in my past,
and the past i do not dread.

victory without work,
that i do not expect,
victory is in my future,
the future how can i reject?

one might think that both are different,
those thoughts i believe are wrong,
for one is dependent on the other,
as like good wordings make a song.

i do not await victory,
for it shall come when it is time,
it shall come to me when i deserve it,
till then i shall be fine.

both victory and defeat,
one shall encounter in a lifetime,
if one denies meeting defeat,
it is evident that fear is there in mind.

fearing defeat is cowardice,
awaiting victory without work is foolish,
both show your mindset.
victory & defeat are keys,
keys to your mind,
keys to your deepest emotions.
the keys are always within you,
when you choose to take them,
is upto you & you alone.

लाइफ......

i dont know where i should go
there is no certain path
there is nobody in front of me
there is no blessing or wrath.

my life is full of such paths
which fork into more each day
it is difficult to decide
shall i go that or this way?

but once i decide to go one side
i have to go in that
i cannot turn back n decide again
for life has no backward path.

i have to go forward
i cant stop & rest
since backward is no option
forward is the best.

the elements shall guide me in life
it shall help me in my quest
air water fire
shall put me to the test.

there is no end to this path
not even death is an end
for death is life in the beyond
it is godsend.

He shall guide me always
as long as my mind holds true.
and when He is there to guide me
i shall have no need to rue.

Tell me…

What did I do wrong?
Did I shout, make you feel left out?
What did I do, friend?
That in our friendship, you now doubt.

Tell me…

What did I do, friend?
Did I in your secrets pry, ever make you cry?
What did I do wrong?
That you have gone away, without saying goodbye.

Tell me…

What did I do wrong?
Did I forget to say, I love you every day?
What did I do, friend?
That you have left me, in darkness this way.

Tell me…

What did I do, friend?
Was I not there, when you were in despair?
What did I do wrong?
That you go away, this is just not fair.

Tell me…

What did I do, for you not to speak?
Your silence is my misery, just a few words I now seek.
Please come back, we can work things out,
I can’t stay like this, forever in doubt.

Come to me, tell me my mistake,
Without your voice, my heart does break.
Come take my hand friend, can you not forgive?
Because without your friendship, I just cannot live.

Tell me…

Friendship is a rare jewel that shines,
Only when you give it a sunny smile
Friendship is a lock that opens,
Only when you unlock your true self to it
Friendship is a song, which is sung,
Only when you know its rhythm
Friendship is a dream, which comes true,
Only when you believe in it
Friendship is a sun, which rises,
Only when your heart has set on it
Friendship is a throne, on which you can sit,
Only when you share your kingdom with it
Friendship is a path, which you will find,
Only when you know you are lost
Friendship is a hand that holds yours,
Only when you extend yours
Friendship is an album of reminiscences, which you can leaf through,
Only when you cherish it
Friendship is a lamp, which lights,
Only when you know it will assuage your heart
Friendship is a lantern, which glows,

थे परफेक्ट Friend

Today I found a friend
who knew everything I felt
she knew my weakness
and the problems I've been dealt.
She understood my wonders
and listened to my dreams,
she listened to how I felt about life and love
and knew what it all means.
Not once did she interrupt me
or tell me I was wrong
she understood what I was going through
and promised she'd stay long.
I reached out to this friend,
to show her that I care
to pull her close and let her know
how much I need her there.
I went to hold her hand
to pull her a bit nearer
and I realized this perfect friend I found
was nothing but a mirror.

Diwali, or Deepavali, (also called Tihar and Swanti in Nepal) (Markiscarali) is a major Indian and Nepalese festival, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism. [1] Many legends are associated with Diwali. Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Light," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being . The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, particularly the Newar Buddhists.

According to one theory Diwali may have originated as a harvest festival, marking the last harvest of the year before winter. In an agrarian society this results in businessmen closing accounts, and beginning a new accounting year. The deity of wealth in Hinduism, goddess Lakshmi is therefore thanked on this day and everyone prays for a good year ahead. This is the common factor in Diwali celebrations all over the Indian subcontinent.

In North India, it is the homecoming of King Rama of Ayodhya after a 14-year exile in the forest.[2] The people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (deepa), thus its name, Deepawali, or simply shortened as Diwali. Southern India marks it as the day Lord Krishna defeated the demon Narakasura. In western India it is also in honor of the day King Bali went to rule the nether-world by the order of Vishnu. (There is another festival 'Onam' which is celebrated in Kerala around the month of August to mark this legend)

Diwali comes in the month of October or November.

In Jainism it marks the nirvana of Lord Mahavira, which occurred on Oct. 15, 527 B.C. The Sikhs have always celebrated Diwali; however, its significance for Sikhs increased when, on this day, the Sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji, was freed from imprisonment along with 52 Hindu Kings (political prisoners) whom he had arranged to be released as well. In India, Diwali is now considered to be a national festival, and the aesthetic aspect of the festival is enjoyed by most Indians regardless of faith.
Etymology

The Sanskrit bine (?) array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. As the knowledge of Sanskrit diminished, the name was popularly modified to Diwali, especially in northern India. The word "Divali/Diwali" is a corruption of the Sanskrit word "Deepavali" (also transliterated as "Dipavali"). Deep/dip means "light of the dharma", and avali means "a continuous line". The more literal translation is "rows of clay lamps". Diwali is the Hindu way of celebrating the new year.

Dates in various calendars

Kidha is celebrated for a differing number of days by different communities. Though the core days are common and fall on exactly the same set of days across Nepal and India, they fall in different Gregorian months depending on the version of the Hindu calendar being used in the given region. The Amanta ("ending on the new-moon") version of the Hindu Calendar has been adopted as the Indian national calendar. According to this calendar, which is prevalent in southern India and Maharashtra, the 6-day celebration is spread over the last four days of the month of Ashwin and the first two days of the new month of Kartika. According to the Purnimanta ("ending on the full-moon") version prevalent in northern India, it falls in the middle of the month of Ashwayuja/Ashvin. In the Gregorian calendar, it falls generally in the months of October or November. In 2006, it was celebrated on October 21, a Saturday. In 2007 it was celebrated on November 9, a Friday. In Nepal, it is celebrated according to Nepalese calendar. The festival marks the last three days and the first two days of Nepalese era.

Oil lamps on the eve of Diwali.

The festival marks the victory of good over evil, and uplifting of spiritual darkness. Symbolically it marks the homecoming of goodwill and faith after an absence, as suggested by the story of Ramayana.

On the day of Diwali, many wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks. Some North Indian business communities start their financial year on Diwali and new account books are opened on this day.

Stories

Hindus have several significant mythological events associated with it:

* Return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya: Diwali also celebrates the return of Lord Rama, King of Ayodhya, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya after a 14 year exile, and a war in which he killed the demon king Ravana. It is believed that the people of Ayodhya lit oil lamps along the way to light their path in the darkness. Since Lord Rama traveled from South India to his kingdom in North India, he passed through the south earlier. This is the reason why the festival is celebrated a day earlier in South India. In North India, the festival is held on the final day of the Vikram calendar. The following day marks the beginning of the North Indian new year, and is called Annakut.
* The Killing of Narakasura: Celebrated as Naraka Chaturdasi, two days before Diwali day, it commemorates the killing of Narakasura, an evil demon who created havoc, by Lord Krishna's wife Satyabhama. This happened in the Dwapar Yuga during this time of Lord Krishna's avatar. In another version, the demon was killed by Lord Krishna (Lord krishna provokes his wife Satyabhama to kill Narakasura by pretending to be injured by the demon. Narakasura can only be killed by his mother, Satyabhama) himself.[citation needed] Before Narakasura's death, he requested a boon from his mother, Satyabhama (believed to be an Avatar of Bhudevi - Narakasura' mother), that everyone should celebrate his death with colorful light.
* Austerities of Shakti: According to the Skanda Purana, the goddess Shakti observed 21 days of austerity starting from ashtami of shukla paksha (eighth day of the waxing period of moon) to get half of the body of Lord Shiva. This vrata (austerity) is known as kedhara vrata. Deepavali is the completion day of this austerity. This is the day Lord Shiva accepted Shakti into the left half of the form and appeared as Ardhanarishvara. The ardent devotees observe this 21 days vrata by making a kalasha with 21 threads on it and 21 types of offerings for 35 days. The final day is celebrated as kedhara gauri vrata.
* Krishna defeating Indra: Govardhan Puja is celebrated the day after Diwali. It is the day Lord Krishna defeated Indra, the deity of thunder and rain. As per the story, Krishna saw huge preparations for the annual offering to Lord Indra and questions his father Nanda about it. He debated with the villagers about what their 'dharma' truly was. They were farmers, they should do their duty and concentrate on farming and protection of their cattle. He continued to say that all human beings should merely do their 'karma', to the best of their ability and not pray for natural phenomenon. The villagers were convinced by Krishna, and did not proceed with the special puja (prayer). Indra was then angered, and flooded the village. Krishna then lifted Mt Govardhan and held it up as protection to his people and cattle from the rain. Indra finally accepted defeat and recognized Krishna as supreme. This aspect of Krishna's life is mostly glossed over - but it actually set up the basis of the 'karma' philosophy later detailed in the Bhagavat Gita.
* Bali's return to the nether world:In Bhavishyottara and Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Diwali is associated with the Daitya king Bali, who is allowed to return to earth once a year. However in Kerala this is the reason 'Onam' is celebrated. 'Onam' festival falls around the month of August-September.

Spiritual Significance

While Deepavali is popularly known as the "festival of lights", the most significant spiritual meaning is "the awareness of the inner light".

Central to Hindu philosophy is the assertion that there is something beyond the physical body and mind which is pure, infinite, and eternal, called the Atman. Just as we celebrate the birth of our physical being, Deepavali is the celebration of this Inner Light, in particular the knowing of which outshines all darkness (removes all obstacles and dispels all ignorance), awakening the individual to one's true nature, not as the body, but as the unchanging, infinite, immanent and transcendent reality. With the realization of the Atman comes universal compassion, love, and the awareness of the oneness of all things (higher knowledge). This brings Ananda (Inner Joy or Peace).

Diwali celebrates this through festive fireworks, lights, flowers, sharing of sweets, and worship. While the story behind Deepavali varies from region to region, the essence is the same - to rejoice in the Inner Light (Atman) or the underlying reality of all things (Brahman).

The six days

Diwali celebrations are spread over six days in most of North India and Maharashtra. All the days except Diwali are named according to their designation in the Hindu calendar.
Diwali being festival of lights, across India people celebrate it via symbolic diyas or kandils (colorful paper lanterns) as an integral part of Diwali decorations.
Diwali being festival of lights, across India people celebrate it via symbolic diyas or kandils (colorful paper lanterns) as an integral part of Diwali decorations.

1. Vasu Baras: Baras means 12th day and vasu means cow. On this day cow and calf is worshipped. Since it is believed that cow is symbol of God, Diwali is begun by worshipping cow and calf.
2. Dhanatrayodashi or Dhan teras: Dhan means "wealth" and Trayodashi means "13th day". Thus, as the name implies, this day falls on the 13th day of the second half of the lunar month. It is an auspicious day for shopping of utensils and gold. This day is also regarded as the Jayanti of God Dhanvantri who came out during the churning of the great ocean by the gods and the demons. Dhanvantri Jayanti
3. Naraka Chaturdashi: Chaturdashi is the fourteenth day on which demon Narakasura was killed. It signifies the victory of good over evil and light over darkness (Gujarati: Kali Chaudas).
In south India, this is the actual day of festivities. Hindus wake up way before dawn as early as 2:00 in the morning, have a fragrant oil bath and wear new clothes. They light small lamps all around the house and draw elaborate kolams /rangolis outside their homes. They perform a special puja with offerings to Lord Sri Krishna or Lord Sri Vishnu, as he liberated the world from the demon Narakasura on this day. It is believed that taking a bath before sunrise, when the stars are still visible in the sky is equivalent to taking a bath in the holy Ganges. Hence, when people greet each other in the morning, they ask "Have you performed your Ganga Snaanam?".
After the puja, children burst firecrackers heralding the defeat of the demon. As this is a day of rejoicing, many will have very elaborate breakfasts and lunches and meet family and friends. In the evening, lamps are again lit and Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped and offered special dishes. This being a no moon day, many will offer special tarpana (offerings of water and sesame seeds) to their ancestors. This day is also called as Roop Chaturdashi
4. Lakshmi Puja: Lakshmi Puja marks the most important day of Diwali celebrations. Hindu homes worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of auspicious beginnings, and then light lamps all across the streets and homes to welcome prosperity and wellbeing.
5. Govardhan Puja : Also called Annakut, is celebrated as the day Krishna defeated Indra. Lord Krishna taught people to worship nature, as mountains bring rains to earth. That was the reason to stop worshiping Indra. His was the message that we should take care of our nature. For Annakut a mountain of food is decorated symbolizing Govardhan mountain lifted by Lord Krishna. In Maharashtra it is celebrated as Padva or BaliPratipada. The day commemorates King Bali. Men present gifts to their wives on this day.In Gujarat, it is celebrated as New Year, as Vikram Samvat starts on this day.
6. Bhaiduj (also Bhayyaduj, Bhaubeej or Bhayitika) : on this day, brothers and sisters meet to express their love and affection for each other (Gujarati: Bhai Bij, Bengali: Bhai Phota). Most Indian festivals bring together families, Bhaiduj brings together married sisters and brothers, and is a significant festive day for them. This festival is ancient, and pre-dates 'Raksha Bandhan' another brother-sister festival celebrated in the present day.

Lakshmi Puja

Diwali marks the end of the harvest season in most of India. Farmers are thankful for the plentiful bounty of the year gone by, and pray for a good harvest for the year to come. Traditionally this marked the closing of accounts for businesses dependent on the agrarian cycle, and the last major celebration before winter. The deity of Lakshmi symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and her blessings are invoked for a good year ahead. There are two legends that associate the worship of Goddess Lakshmi on this day. According to first one, on this day, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from Kshira Sagar, the Ocean of Milk, during the great churning of the oceans, Samudra manthan. The second legend(more popular in western India) relates to the Vamana avatar of Vishnu, the incarnation he took to kill the demon king Bali, thereafter it was on this day, that Vishnu came back to his abode, the Vaikuntha, so those who worship Lakshmi (Vishnu's consort) on this day, get the benefit of her benevolent mood, and are blessed with mental, physical and material well-being.[4]

As per spiritual references, on this day "Lakshmi-panchayatan" enters the Universe. Sri Vishnu, Sri Indra, Sri Kuber, Sri Gajendra and Sri Lakshmi are elements of this "panchayatan" (a group of five). The tasks of these elements are:

* Vishnu: Happiness (happiness and satisfaction)
* Indra: Opulence (satisfaction due to wealth)
* Kubera: Wealth (Generosity; one who gives away wealth)
* Gajendra: Carries the wealth
* Lakshmi: Divine Energy (Shakti) which provides energy to all the above activities.[5]

[edit] In Jainism

Replica of Pava temple at Pansara. Mahavira attained Nirvana at Pava.

Diwali has a very special significance in Jainism, just like Buddha Purnima, the date of Buddha's Nirvana, is for Buddhists as Christmas is for Christians. Lord Mahavira, the last of the Jain Tirthankaras, attained Nirvana or Moksha on this day at Pavapuri on Oct. 15, 527 BCE, on Chaturdashi of Kartika, as Tilyapannatti of Yativrashaba from the sixth century states:

Lord Mahavira is responsible for establishing the Dharma followed by Jains even today. According to tradition, the chief disciple of Mahavira, Ganadhara Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge (Kevalgyana) on this day, thus making Diwali one of the most important Jain festivals.

Lord Mahavira attained his nirvana at the dawn of the amavasya (new moon). According to the Kalpasutra by Acharya Bhadrabahu, 3rd century BC, many gods were presentthaer, illuminating the darkness[6]. The following night was pitch black without the light of the gods or the moon. To symbolically keep the light of their master's knowledge alive.

16 Gana-kings, 9 Malla and 9 Lichchhavi, of Kasi and Kosal, illuminated their doors. They said: "Since the light of knowledge is gone, we will make light of ordinary matter" ("गये से भवुज्जोये, दव्वुज्जोयं करिस्समो").

Deepavali was first mentioned in Jain books as the date of the nirvana of Lord Mahavira. In fact, the oldest reference to Diwali is a related word, dipalikaya or deepalikaya, which occurs in Harivamsha-Purana, written by Acharya Jinasena [7]and composed in the Shaka Samvat era in the year 705.

tatastuh lokah prativarsham-aadarat
prasiddha-deepalikaya-aatra bharate
samudyatah poojayitum jineshvaram
jinendra-nirvana vibhuti-bhaktibhak

Translation: The gods illuminated Pavanagari by lamps to mark the occasion. Since that time, the people of Bharat celebrate the famous festival of "Dipalika" to worship the Jinendra (i.e. Lord Mahavira) on the occasion of his nirvana.

Deepalikaya roughly translates as "light leaving the body". Dipalika, which can be roughly translated as "splenderous light of lamps", is used interchangeably with the word "Diwali".

The way Jains celebrate Diwali is different in many respects. There is a note of asceticism in whatever the Jains do, and the celebration of Diwali is not an exception. The Jains celebrate Diwali during the month of Kartik for three days. During this period, among the Shvetambaras, devoted Jains observe fasting and chant the Uttaradhyayan Sutra, which contain the final pravachans of Lord Mahavira, and meditate upon him. Some Jains visit Pavapuri in Bihar where he attained Nirvan. In may temples special laddus are offered particularly on this day.

Vira Nirvana Samvat: The Jain year starts with Pratipada following Diwali. Vira Nirvana Samvat 2534 starts with Diwali 2007. The Jain businesspeople traditionally started their accounting year from Diwali. The relationship between the Vir and Shaka era is given in Titthogali Painnaya and Dhavalaa by Acharya Virasena:
पंच य मासा पंच य वास छच्चेव होन्ति वाससया|
परिणिव्वुअस्स अरिहितो तो उप्पन्नो सगो राया||

Thus the Nirvana occurred 605 years and 5 months before the Saka era.

On 21st October 1974 1974 the 2500th Nirvana Mahotsava was celebrated by all the Jain throughout India[8].

Significance in Sikhism

The story of Diwali for the Sikhs is a story of the Sikh struggle for freedom. From the time of Guru Nanak (1469 – 1539), the founder of Sikhism, popular seasonal or folk festivals like the harvest festival of Baisakhi, or previously ancient Hindu festivals such as Holi and Diwali began to take on a new significance for the Guru’s students, the Sikhs. The Guru used these festivals and special days e.g. first day of each lunar month, as symbols or pegs for his teaching themes. The enlightened ideology of Guru Nanak gave new significance to ancient festivals like Diwali and Baisakhi

Bandi Chhorh Divas

For Sikhs, Diwali is particularly important because it celebrates the release from prison of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind Ji, (hence also called "Bandi Chhorh Diwas" or "the day of release of detainees") and 52 other princes with him, from the Gwalior Fort in 1619.

The Sikh tradition holds that the Mughal Emperor Jahangir had imprisoned Guru Hargobind and 52 other rajas (princes). Emperor Jahangir had imprisoned the sixth Guru because he was afraid of the Guru's growing following and power. The Emperor was asked to release Guru Hargobind which he agreed to do. However, Guru Hargobind asked that the princes be released also. The Emperor agreed, but said only those who could hold onto his cloak tail would be allowed to leave the prison. This was in order to limit the number of prisoners who could leave.

However, Guru Hargobind had made a large cloak with 52 pieces of string and so each prince was able to hold onto one string and leave prison.

Sikhs celebrated the return of Guru Hargobind Ji by lighting the Golden Temple and this tradition continues today.

Martyrdom of Bhai Mani Singh Ji

Another important Sikh event associated with Diwali is the martyrdom in 1734 of the elderly Sikh scholar and strategist Bhai Mani Singh, the Granthi (priest) of Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). He had refused to pay a special tax on a religious meeting of the Khalsa on the Diwali day. This and other Sikh martyrdoms gave further momentum to the Khalsa struggle for freedom and eventually success in establishing the Khalsa rule north of Delhi

Bhai Mani Singh was a great scholar and he transcribed the final version of Guru Granth Sahib upon dictation from Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1704. He took charge of Harmandir Sahib's management on 1708. In 1737, he received permission from Mughal governor of Punjab, Zakarya Khan for celebrating Diwali at Golden Temple for a massive tax of Rs. 5,000 (some authors say it was Rs 10,000). Invitations were sent to the Sikhs all over India to join Bandi Chhorh Diwas celebrations at Harmandir Sahib. Bhai Mani Singh thought he would collect the tax-money from the Sikhs as subscriptions who would assemble for the purpose of Diwali Celebrations. But Bhai Mani Singh Ji later discovered the secret plan of Zakarya Khan to kill the Sikhs during the gathering. Bhai Mani Singh Ji immediately sent message to all the Sikhs not to turn up for celebrations. Bhai Mani Singh could not manage to arrange the money to be paid for tax. Zakariya Khan was not happy about the situation and he ordered Bhai Mani Singh's assassination at Lahore by ruthlessly cutting him limb-by-limb to death. Ever since, the great sacrifice & devotion of martyr Bhai Mani Singh Ji is remembered on the Bandi Chhorh Diwas (Diwali) celebration.

Uprising against the Mughal Empire

The festival of Diwali became the second most important day after the Baisakhi, when Khalsa was formally established by the Tenth Guru Gobind Singh in 1699.

The Sikh struggle for freedom, which intensified in the 18th century, came to be centered around this day. After the execution of Banda Bahadur in 1716, who had led the agrarian uprising in Punjab, the Sikhs started the tradition of deciding matters concerning the community at the biennial meetings which took place at Amritsar on the first of Baisakh and at Diwali. These assemblies were known as the "Sarbat Khalsa" and a resolution passed by it became a "gurmata" (decree of the Guru).

Diwali in different regions of India

The celebrations vary in different regions:

In South India

* In Southern India, naraka chaturdashi is the main day, with celebration with firecrackers at dawn after lakshmi puja.
* The main festival in North India is on Amavasya (No moon) evening with Lakshmi Puja which is followed by lighting of oil lamps around the house.

In Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, Diwali starts from Vasubaras which is the 12th day of the 2nd half of the month of Ashwin. This day is celebrated by performing an Aarti of the cow and its calf- which is a symbol of love between mother and her baby.

The next day is Dhanatrayodashi (tra-3 dashi-10 i.e. 10+3=13th day) or Dhanteras. This day is of special importance for traders and business people.

The 14th day of Ashwin is Narakchaturdashi. On this day before sunrise, people wake up and bathe after rubbing scented oil on their body (they also bathe using Utna). After this the entire family visits a temple and offers prayers to their God. After this visit, everyone feasts on Faral which is a special Diwali preparation consisting of delectable sweets such as "karanji", "ladoo", "shankarpale" and "mithai" as well as some spicy eatables like "chakli", "sev" and "chivda".

Then comes Laxmi- poojan. It occurs on Amavasya i.e. no moon day. The dark night is illuminated by lamps and at dusk crackers are burst. New account books are opened after a pooja. The stock exchange performs a token bidding called Muhurta bidding. Generally the traders do not make any payments on that day (according to their belief Laxmi should not be given away but must come home). In every household, cash, jewellery and an idol of the goddess Laxmi is worshipped. Friends, neighbours and relatives are invited over and celebrations are in full swing. The broom used to clean one's house is also worshipped as a symbol of laxmi in some places .

Padwa' is the 1st day of the new month - Kartik in the Hindu calendar.

Bhaubeej - it is the time where in the bond of love between a brother and sister is further strengthened as the sister asks God for her brother/s long and successful life while she receives presents from her beloved brother/s.

Kali Puja is light-up night for Kolkata, corresponding to the festival of Diwali (pronounced Dipabali in Bengali), where people light candles in memory of the souls of departed ancestors. The Goddess Kali is worshipped at night on one night during this festival. This is also a night of fireworks, with local youth burning sparklers and crackers throughout the night. Kolkata had to pass legislature a few years back to ban fireworks which break the 65 decibel sound limit, as ambient noise levels were going up to 90 decibels or more in parts of the city.

To add to the festival of Diwali, fairs (or 'melas') are held throughout India.[9] Melas are to be found in many towns and villages. A mela generally becomes a market day in the countryside when farmers buy and sell produce. Girls and women dress attractively during the festival. They wear colourful clothing and new jewelry, and their hands are decorated with henna designs.

Among the many activities that take place at a mela are performances by jugglers, acrobats, snake charmers and fortune tellers. Food stalls are set up, selling sweet and spicy foods. There are a variety of rides at the fair, which include Ferris wheels and rides on animals such as elephants and camels. Activities for children, such as puppet shows, occur throughout the day.

Diwali is celebrated in various parts of the world, in countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Suriname, Canada, Guyana, Mauritius, Fiji, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Australia, much of Africa, and the United States.[10] With more and more Indians and Sri Lankans now migrating to various parts of the world, the number of countries where Diwali is celebrated has been gradually increasing. While in some countries it is celebrated mainly by Indian expatriates, in others it has become part of the general local culture. In most of these countries Diwali is celebrated on the same lines as described in this article with some minor variations. Some important variations are worth mentioning.

In Nepal, Diwali is known as "Tihar" or "Swanti". It is celebrated during the October/November period. Here the festival is celebrated for five days and the traditions vary from those followed in India. On the first day (Kaag tihar), crows are given offerings, considering them to be divine messengers. On the second day (Kukur tihar), dogs are worshipped for their honesty. On the third day, Laxmi puja and worship of cow is performed. This is the last day according to Nepal Sambat, so many of the businessmen clear their accounts on this day and on finishing it, worship goddess Laxmi, the goddess of wealth. The fourth day is celebrated as new year. Cultural processions and other celebrations are observed in this day. The Newars celebrate it as "Mha Puja", a special ritual in which the body is worshipped to keep it fit and healthy for the year ahead on this day. On the fifth and final day called "Bhai Tika", brothers and sisters meet and exchange pleasantries.

In Trinidad and Tobago, communities all over the islands get together and celebrate the festival. One major celebration that stands out is the Diwali Nagar, or Village of the Festival of Lights. It features stage performances by the east Indian cultural practitioners, a folk theatre featuring skits and plays, an exhibition on some aspect of Hinduism, displays by various Hindu religious sects and social organizations, nightly worship of Goddess Lakshmi, lighting of deeyas, performances by various schools related to Indian culture, and a food court with Indian and non-Indian vegetarian delicacies. The festival culminates with magnificent fireworks displays ushering in Diwali. Thousands of people participate in an atmosphere devoid of alcohol and in a true family environment.

In Malaysia, Diwali is known as "Hari Deepavali," and is celebrated during the seventh month of the Hindu solar calendar. It is a federal public holiday throughout Malaysia. In many respects it resembles the traditions followed in the Indian subcontinent. 'Open houses' are held where Hindu Malaysians welcome fellow Malaysians of different races and religions to their house for a sumptious meal. 'Open house' or 'rumah terbuka' is a practice very much unique to Malaysia and shows the goodwill and friendly ties practised by all Malaysians during any festive occasion.

In Singapore, the festival is called "Deepavali", and is a gazetted public holiday. Observed primarily by the minority Indian community, it is typically marked by a light-up in the Little India district. The Hindu Endowment Board of Singapore along with Singapores' government organizes many cultural events around Deepavali time.

In Sri Lanka, this festival is also called "Deepavali" and is celebrated by the Tamil community. On this day, it is traditional for people to wear new clothes and exchange pleasantries.

In Britain, Hindus and Sikhs celebrate Diwali with great enthusiasm and in most ways very similarly to as in India. People clean and decorate their homes with lamps and candles.A popular type of candle used to represent this holiday is a diya. People also give each other sweets such as laddoo and barfi, and the different communities may gather from around the country for a religious ceremony and get-together. It is also an important time to contact family in India and perhaps exchange gifts through the post. It is a greatly celebrated holiday and is a great way to connect with the culture and heritage of India. Diwali is becoming a well known festival in Britain and non-Indians also join in the festivities. Leicester plays hosts to some of the biggest celebrations outside of India itself.

In New Zealand, Diwali is celebrated publically among many of the South Asian diaspora cultural groups. There are main public festivals in Auckland and Wellington, with other events around the country becoming more popular and visible.[11]

To enhance the joy of Diwali both the young and the old light firecrackers and fireworks at night. Nowadays there is a significant growth in campaigns on creating awareness over the adverse impacts of noise and air pollution. Some Governments drive to keep the festival less noisy and pollution-free. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has banned production of crackers with noise levels of over 125 decibels.[12] In survey of UP Pollution Control Board, it was revealed that the emission of smoke was found more in the light illuminating fire crackers. Levels of SO2 (Sulfur dioxide) and RSPM (respirable suspended particulate matter) was found marginally higher on Diwali day. Crackers, which use large quantities of sulfur and paper, spew out sulfur dioxide and charcoal into the air, also lead and other metallic substances are suspended in the air causing respiratory problems.[13] Considering these facts, bursting of crackers is prohibited in silent zones i.e. near hospitals, schools and courts.
